Sweet Little Baby Dress

One of my friends is expecting a baby girl, and I wanted to give her a gift that was unique.

I was still feeling invigorated from my last sewing project, so I thought it would be nice to sew something for her new baby.

I went to Pinterest, and looked through thousands of adorable, tiny things to sew for babies. The research step of this process was fun because it has been a long time since my little girl was a baby, and I love looking at baby girl crafts.

I finally settled on a sweet little dress that looked quick and easy to sew, and it was a free pattern. It is called the Infant Peasant Dress Free Pattern and Tutorial by Sew Much Ado in size 0-3 months. I will have to check out this blog again in the future, because there are so many cute patterns!

The dress didn't require much fabric, the instructions were clear, and it was easy to sew together quickly. I am really happy with how it turned out, and my friend seemed to like it too. :)

Fortunately, I already had everything I needed in my fabric stash and I did not need to visit the fabric store. I try to stay away and not visit the fabric store more often than is absolutely necessary, because I always leave having bought more than I intended when entering.

The beautiful pink nursery rhyme toile fabric was given to me by one of my dearest friends several years ago, and it is one of my favorite baby girl fabrics. I bought the pink gingham about a year ago for decoration at a party, and the ruffled border and pearl beads were lying around on my sewing desk from previous projects.

I hand-sewed the ruffled border into a flower shape, sandwiched it between two pieces of white felt, and added the pearl beads to the top. The accessory is removable so it can be taken off the dress before washing.

Have you heard that Project Run and Play is having a mini season right now?

The theme is to sew something inspired by and/or sewn with Art Gallery Fabrics. I checked out the look books on the website one night after I put my kids to bed, and soon realized that an hour and a half had passed by in what seemed like the blink of an eye. There are so many gorgeous fabrics, and I loved seeing the different patterns people used with the fabric.

I did not use any Art Gallery Fabric for the construction of this little dress, but I think it is cute enough to be framed. It is precious, and it will look lovely on the sweet baby girl who will wear it in a few months.

How about you? Are you sewing anything for PR&P?
